A myomectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove uterine fibroids—noncancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus—while preserving the uterus itself.
Myomectomy is typically recommended if fibroids are causing:
Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
Pelvic pain or pressure
Frequent urination
Fertility problems or pregnancy complications
Fibroids themselves are medically called Uterine fibroids.
Hysteroscopic myomectomy
No external incision
Fibroids are removed through the vagina and cervix
Only works for fibroids inside the uterus
Unlike a Hysterectomy, a myomectomy:
Preserves the uterus
Keeps the possibility of pregnancy
Maintains normal hormonal function
